Andrew Airey's Fight 4 Sight
Donation protected
We are trying to raise enough money to assist Andrew in purchasing a pair of eSight glasses. Unfortunately, these glasses are not covered by insurance. Andrew will need to come up with the full purchase price as well as travel costs to Canada for proper, individualized fitting and future upgrades to the technology. If you can, please consider donating to Andrew's Fight for Sight. Your contribution means so much!
Andrew's story:
"I still remember being a teenager, taking the train down to Fenway Park, sitting up in the grandstand seats with my friends and looking out at Wade Boggs and the Boston Red Sox play in one of the most iconic stadiums in all of sports. One of my great passions in life has always been Boston sports, and I’ve had the privilege of sharing that passion with my family. It culminated in a trip back to Fenway a few years ago with my wife and children, but something was missing. That something was my eyesight, as I’m now legally blind. It hurts me to say this, but being at that game was just a cruel tease of what I used to be able to see. I sat there and pictured those memories from my teenage years.
But then last November, everything changed when I was given a new sense of hope. That was when I tried eSight Eyewear’s electronic glasses and could see a new world. A world where I’m able to see more clearly than I could have ever imagined. Now I dream of a future when I’m able to go back to Fenway Park with my family and together, we can see a Red Sox game in all its glory.
It wasn’t until I entered my early-20s that I realized my eyesight would challenge me in ways I never thought of. I still drove, but I would miss small things on the road and had to squint and struggle to see. It was a strain on my eyes and created more problems for me every day. But I still didn’t have any answers as to why this was happening.
I was 26-years-old when I would finally see the ophthalmologist who would provide me with an answer, when they diagnosed me with Stargardt disease.
I’m a firm believer in the idea you need to work hard and earn everything you receive, so even after I was diagnosed, I kept pushing myself. There was a time I was working 60-70 hours per week, while putting myself through college by taking night classes. I did all of this until I earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Southern New Hampshire University. It would be an incredible understatement to say it was a challenge reworking my entire life after my diagnosis.
But ultimately, it changed my entire outlook on life. If I were to become an eSight user, my mission would be to advocate for other individuals with low vision. I know how it feels to be someone with low vision, out in the world, surrounded by so many people but feeling completely alone and unnoticed.
My plan is to establish a non-profit organization to help anyone else who feels this way and ensure they never do again. I’ve been working on this project for years and eSight would provide me with the added ability and eyesight to make it a reality. Another goal of mine is to earn my Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and travel to other countries, using my business and personal skills to advocate for people with low vision all across the world.
If you were to donate to my fundraiser, you wouldn’t just be giving me the ability to see again, but you would be providing me the opportunity to better advocate and educate so many other individuals like myself."
Remember, any little bit helps! If you are unable to donate, would you consider sharing this link on Facebook? You are a blessing to Andrew and we truly appreciate your support!
