Bags of Kindness Campaign

Donation protected

I'm helping to facilitate the Bags of Kindness Campaign with my daughter, some of her classmates, a few awesome friends, and one super special Site Manager at the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod. We hope to spread hope and kindness. Here's how...

We need to raise money. (Enter you!) We'll then purchase items to fill these Bags Of Kindness...which will be distributed by the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod when they are meeting with homeless clients in the Hyannis area (Queue the angelic Donna Mello!)

We hope to fill 50 Bags of Kindness with comfort items, an encouraging message, a coffee card, and a bus pass among other things. Here is a note from my 7th grader.

"This Winter is said to be harsher than last Winter, so the homeless need very warm accessories and nutrition. So please donate money or any of the items below to help the homeless.

The people from the ASGCC are going to take the bags that are made and hand them out to homeless men and women during face-to-face visits. I will list how to contact them or my mom if you need more information.

Our goal is to keep the cost at $15 and...
Goal #1.) Make 20 bags before Winter Holiday Break
Goal #2.) Make 30 more bags before February Vacation"

(Other items of note are power bars, juice, wipes, sanitizer, dry shampoo, ibuprofen, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, sanitizer, BandAids and Chapstick.)

Last year, many of us complained about intermittent power loss and spoiled refrigerator items. Perspective is easy to lose in the midst of the 9-5 grind, back-to-school teacher conferences, mortgage bills and hockey games. We want to remind you that humans are sleeping outside. Perhaps by poor choices, maybe by bad circumstance. They kept warm in tents that were removed this summer. They may have addiction issues. They may have an illness. They still deserve kindness and compassion.

This morning, it was 37 degrees out when I woke in a warm bed. Imagine the depression and loneliness that comes with an HIV, Hep-C, or AIDS diagnosis. Now add wet feet and a windchill factor of 12. Would a ride to the ASGCC on a heated bus be nice? How about a warm cup of coffee or a couple of hand warmers?

That's all we want to do. We want to write "you matter" notes. We want tell and show people that there is hope, both for them and the next generation. We want to send the kindness and compassion of our 7th graders out into our world.

$1 buys a protein bar for someone hungry
$2 buys a package of wipes
$4 buys a ride to and from an appointment in town
$5 buys two cups of hot coffee and a few minutes out of the elements
$6 covers the cost of sanitary napkins
$10 buys a package of hand warmers and a pair of gloves to put them in, and hopefully a warmed soul-if even briefly

Thank you for reading this far.
Thank you for considering us.
Please share and pass it on!
