Friends Of Balch Lake
Donation protected
Dear Balch Lakers,
Most of you know by now that new state and federal regulations require the marina owners to upgrade their existing gasoline system, even though the marina has been fully and recently inspected and there are NO leaks or other environmental concerns. The cost of these upgrades will be at least $40,000. Our goal of raising $30,000 reflects a joint commitment by the marina ownership and the community to maintain the best things about life on Balch Lake. Here are a few issues to consider when thinking about a donation:
· A full-service marina improves the quality of life for most of us on Balch Lake.
· Without gas, a marina on Balch is not a viable business venture and will close. That means the boat launch, boat storage, and boat repair facilities are also gone. If you don’t have a way to get your boat on and off the lake, this is a serious issue as there are no other public launches on Balch.
· In addition to the inconvenience of hauling gas down to your boat, adding thousands of gallons of gasoline each season by hand will inevitably result in spillage and a consequent decrease in the water quality of the lake.
· Even if you are not a regular user of marina services, according to local realtors our property values are enhanced by having a marina, especially because we are the only lake in the Seven Lakes area (including Great East) that has one.
· Donations will be strictly controlled by the Friends of Balch Lake committee, and will only be dispersed upon receipt of documented expenses for upgrading the gasoline-dispensing operation of the marina to meet the new regulations.
· We hope that you will join us in making a donation to the long-term survivability of a marina on Balch Lake both for the tangible and intangible values it brings to our unique community.
