Ready to Compete at Nationals!

We are members of the Batavia High School Chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA). What is BPA? First, we are a family. We work together to support each other and our community. In Mrs. Kovacs class we are obtaining the leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills needed to be successful after high school. We also return as alumni to support current students.
Recently, nine of us qualified for tnational competition in Boston May 4th-9th. During state competition we participated in the Workplace Skills Assessment Program against students from all over Ohio. Competitions are designed to assess real-world business skills and problem solving abilities. Our events include Global Marketing Team, Legal Procedures, Desktop Publishing and Intermediate Word Processing. Some of us are also receiving national community service awards. We know we can be successful, but first we have to get to Boston.
The class is sponsored through Great Oaks and located at Batavia HS. We do not receive funding from either school. Our chapter is expected to raise $10,000 per year to pay for local, state, and national competition costs. We compete with the athletic boosters, band, PTO, and other groups for fundraising opportunities. Over the past few years we have been unable to get enough fundraisers approved.
We are not asking for money to do extra things at nationals. It will just cover the hotel, registration and airfare. (Great Oaks will pay airfare ONLY for national competition qualifiers but not students earning national awards for community service.) We need to raise $5,500 by May 4th. The money will pay for 5 nights and 6 days lodging, individual registration for each student, and airfare for our community service award reciepients.
If we have this opportunity, we will represent our school, our families, and our community with maturity and professionalism. We promise to pay it forward in the future when we become tomorrow's business professionals!
