Kyabram P-12 College Community Assembly Hall Upgrade

The Kyabram P-12 College Parents’ Club is undertaking a huge task of raising $60,000 to refurbish the W.A. Kuhne Assembly Hall (‘the Hall’).

So far, current fundraising to date is $47,000 which has been raised over many years by our Parents’ Club.  This new fundraising campaign will see another $60,000 added to our target to refurbish the toilets and hall curtains.

The Hall is an extremely valuable asset to the College and the Kyabram community and is an important part of Kyabram history that needs to be maintained.

Can you help us out?  We look forward to continuing to provide a community hall with facilities to benefit our entire Kyabram and district community.

 What needs to be done?

The Hall is located on our College grounds and was opened on the 4th December 1980 and is now looking more than a little tired.  Our students and community groups who use the hall are telling us that they want better toilets and curtains that work!

Our project involves a refurbishment of the existing hall, in particular, replacement of ripped and torn stage curtains and tracks and repair and renovation of toilets, which are in very poor condition.

The refurbishment is part of an overall community project being undertaken by our Parents Club.  Over the past year our Parents Club has identified the clear need for a community venue to be available for use.  In Kyabram, venues for holding district events are limited.  With the Hall being an important hub of the community, it is important that this community asset is maintained and available for use.

This will support our local community in a variety of ways

If this refurbishment is not able to be achieved, then this could mean that a number of community groups will no longer be able to use the hall.

Each year, a number of community groups use the Hall for their events.  Kyabram P-12 College does not charge any hall hire and this is our way of helping to support our Community.

In recent times these groups have included:

 * The ‘Kyabram Gift’ is a group that seeks community support to raise funds for local people with cancer. The Gift Committee use the hall to run major fundraising events throughout the year.

* Over recent years there have been a number of families using the hall for funerals or memorials which means that large numbers of our community have access to a place large enough to meet their needs.  At times like this, the community pulls together with the College helping in any way we can.

* Youth Expo organised by the CCLLEN – aimed at engaging Youths aged 12-18

* Our College community will also benefit when we use the hall and stage area for our Debutante Presentation Ball, which is open to the whole community including young people from all Colleges in the area and also our Year 12 Graduation Ball, where parents, students and staff celebrate 13 years of schooling.

* Currently our College drama groups and College productions are not able to be performed at the Hall.  This is due to not having the appropriate curtains.  Performing Arts is an important way of building children’s self-esteem and personal confidence and to be able to once again use our College hall would be ideal.  Currently the College needs to hire other venues which are both costly and time consuming, with extra travel arrangements needing to be made.

* Dillmac, a local musical company also uses the hall for their concerts.

* A number of local community groups use the hall for many varied purposes.

* A number of sporting groups also use the Hall for training sessions each week.  This is particularly important when inclement weather means that if there were no Hall available, then these training sessions would have to be cancelled.  The groups currently using the hall include:  Knight’s Soccer Club, Kyabram Junior Football Group, Little Athletics, Fire Brigade Cricket Club, Kyabram Cricket Club, Dillmac, Kyabram Football/Netball Club, Kyabram Auskick, Martial Arts Group, AFL Goulburn Murray, GV Umpires Association, and the Kyabram Salami Muster.

Can you help us out?  We look forward to continuing to provide a community hall with facilities to benefit our entire Kyabram and district community.
