Brooke DuBeau is a happy, loving, engaging and very bright 3 year old that recently started preschool at the Roland Green School in Mansfield "“ a peer modeling school with a focus on integrating special needs preschoolers into a typical school setting. Brooke has learned sign language and is getting better at communication every day. Brooke loves listening to music. She also loves being with and interacting with her brothers and sister. There is not much that Brooke does not like. Besides constantly learning to be patient. She is amazing, funny, inspiring, and so full of love! She wakes us up, and makes us realize what's truly important in life. Brooke loves music "“ any kind "“ but especially country (even though you can't hear her, Brooke is constantly singing). She's very smart and has a great sense of humor. She also has the typical 3 year old behaviors! She is strong willed and a fighter. Most of all she just takes great enjoyment in the small things:the things that most of us take for granted.

In October 2011, four days shy of her first birthday, Brooke Dubeau was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor (grade 2 Ependymoma). Brooke underwent brain surgery at Boston Children's Hospital two days after the diagnosis, during which she suffered a stroke. As a result of the tumor, Brooke requires a tracheotomy to help her breathe, and due to the paralysis of Brooke's vocal chords resulting from her surgery, she cannot use her mouth to eat and therefore requires a permanent feeding tube. Brooke is nonverbal. She cannot stand or walk and suffers seizures weekly. She needs to be connected to a ventilator while sleeping because of severe sleep apnea. Brooke's medical needs are constant. Brooke spent four months in the ICU at Boston Children's Hospital and was then transferred to Franciscan Hospital for rehab for another two months.

Brooke has two older siblings "“ Vail (age 6) and Luke (age 5) "“ and one younger sibling "“ Jace (age 1) (John and Krissie found out they were expecting with Jace while in the hospital with Brooke after her diagnosis). John is a firefighter with the Boston Fire Department and, because of the constant care that Brooke requires, Krissie (Brooke's mother) left her full-time job to stay at home and care for Brooke and her siblings. With four children, and going from a two-income family to only one income, it has been a financial burden on John and Krissie.

Thank you so much. God Bless
