HELP NYC CABARET HELP DEMS IN 2018
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Cabaret Fans, and Political Progressives,
In April, I launched a new Cabaret Variety Show Series at Don't Tell Mama in New York City called:
CABARET CAMPAIGNS: RIDE THE BLUE WAVE 2018!—TO RAISE FUNDS FOR DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES IN MIDTERM ELECTIONS
All of the proceeds from the shows have been going to Democratic or Progressive Candidates running for the Senate, Congress or Governorships in the 2018 Midterm Elections. The performers in each of the five shows have been "campaigning" for a specific candidate and when we are done 30 candidates will have been represented overall. For example, for the launch show on April 4 at 7 pm (the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King's Assassination), each performer represented incumbent Democratic Senators running for re-election this year--Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Tina Smith of Minnesota, Bill Nelson of Florida, and Claire McCaskill of Missouri. For the June 28 show, our performers supported Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, Texas State Senate Candidate Mark Phariss, Washington Senator Maria Cantwell, California Congressional Candidate Andrew Janz—running against Devin Nunes, Texas US Senate Candidate Beto O’Rourke—running against Ted Cruz, and Wisconsin US Congress Candidate Randy Bryce—running for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s seat.
Here's a phenomenal review of the incredible June 28th show: https://www.womanaroundtown.com/sections/playing-around/cabaret-campaigns-ride-blue-wave-ii-inspiring/
My goal is not only to sell out each show and raise as much money as possible, but to also provide MATCHING FUNDS for each show. I'm appealing to you to donate to this incredibly important "campaign," especially if you are not in the New York area and won't be able to attend one of the shows (details below). You can think of it as your donation to campaigns of worthy candidates.
Why am I doing this? Because I love the art form of Cabaret and hate the dramatic rise of voter suppression and white supremacy in America during the current Republican Party rule of all three branches of the United States Government. So with the November 2018 Midterm elections on the horizon, I've decided to combine the objects of my love and his hate and channel that energy into political action.
To help me with the “Campaigning,” I've recruited All-Star Casts of Cabaret performers who are equally passionate about motivating people to “Ride the Blue Wave” in 2018. On October 13 (7 pm), Musical Theater Composer Michael Roberts (who has written the series theme song “The Great Blue Wave”) will serve as MD for Natalie Douglas, Kim Grogg, Billie Roe, Annie Hughes, Lane Bradbury, and Blair Alexis Brown.
Sincerely Yours,
Stephen Hanks
