Dominican Republic Mosaic Mural

My name is Natalie Ramos, and I'm a high school senior from Oakland, CA. My mom, Pam Consear, is a mural artist (www.AllHandsArt.com). The two of us have been invited to the Dominican Republic this summer to lead a mosaic mural project in Batey Isabela, the small community where I lived last summer as a participant with Amigos de las Americas. Woo-hoo! Here it is:

I've actually worked with my mom on a dozen or more mural projects around Oakland, and last spring I led  a mosaic mural project of my own for the first time.  We're excited to take mural-making overseas! (That's me with some kids from the community below). 

We’ll be volunteering our time and expertise on this project, and raising funds to cover our transportation and materials costs. The community will house us and provide most meals while we're there.

The total estimated cost for travel and materials is $2200. We've already raised half of this amount through yard sales and art/craft sales at home.

Donations from you, our community of supporters near and far, will help with the rest. We hope to finish our fund-raising by the end of April, so that we can turn our focus to planning the rest of the trip after that. Our departure date is June 14, 2016, and we'll be in the D.R. for about 3 weeks.

I can't wait to go back, see my host family and friends, and share it with my mom this time.


I commissioned my mom to paint this picture of Batey Isabela after I returned last August. It's based on a photo I took of my street. I lived in the yellow house on the right. :)
