Gift of sight for Danny Delcambre
Donation protected
My husband, Danny Delcambre who is deaf-blind has a dream. His dream is to regain some of his vision so that he will be able to participate in our boys' lives, continue to watch them grow up and to see his beautiful grown daughter again.
Danny Delcambre was born with Usher Syndrome, a relatively rare genetic disorder resulting in a combination of hearing loss and visual impairment and is a leading cause of deafblindness. The vision loss results from retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a degeneration of the retinal cells.
Danny has been deaf from birth and has been steadily losing his sight. Today, at 55 years of age, he is almost completely blind and he is concerned that his world will soon become completely dark and most importantly he will miss out on seeing our boys who are now 9 and 11 grow up.
We recently learned that there is hope for him with stem cell treatments for eye disease (Stem Cell Ophthalmology Treatment Study or SCOTS) that is performed in the state of Florida. The treatment is a transfer of active bone marrow derived adult stem cells to an area that has sustained cellular damage.
The cost for this treatment including travel expenses is approximately $25,000. Since this is in the clinical study stage, the treatment unfortunately is not covered by our insurance.
My husband has always been a very positive person who never let his disabilities get in the way of his success and him living life to the fullest. He was the world's first Deaf Blind person to own and operate a restaurant, he's been a professional speaker and currently in his most important role as Mr. Mom, he's helping in raising our two young boys.
I would love to be able to give him the gift of sight. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated!
