August 7, 2016 Update. Good new, bad news.
Since starting this gofundme page for Dave he lost his job in mid July so his financial need is even greater.
Good News! Dave was referred outside the VA to a pain specialist. He finally has a doctor that shows real concern and compassion! The plan now is to try a spinal cord stimulator, and if that that doesn't relieve his pain to try and burn the nerves. If these options don't help then the spinal fusion surgery wil be last resort.
Bad News! All this means more delays before he can try to find a new job and more co-pays for all his visits. He just sold his Kayak to get school supplies and back-to- school clothes for his son and to pay living expenses.
Dave, needs our prayers, our financial support and a job that doesn't require lifting, and in a non-stressful environment due to his PTSD.
HIS SERVICE!
Dave Lee Gentry, who lives in Hendersonville , TN was a Marine in Special Forces who served in 32 countries as a part of the 22nd and 26th MEU. After 9/11 he re-enlisted in the Army to defend our country. Both his mom and dad were in the Army (his parents are both deceased). He and his wife Samantha, and son "Little David" are originally from Huntsville, Alabama are relatively new to Tennessee.
Dave suffers from life altering PTSD, traumatic brain injury and other medical conditions. He is scheduled the first week of August for a pre- surgical consult with his neurosurgeon to fuse his spine as he has degenerative disc disease, 4 herniated disc and one with a major tear. He lives in constant pain!
Dave works as a commissioned car salesman with no sick leave benefits; he cannot support his wife and son when he is recouperating. His surgery will require that he be off work for six to eight weeks. The VA will pay for most of the surgery, but he does not receive financial assistance from the VA.
He lives with daily pain and cannot postpone surgery any longer. He needs our help! Please honor the sacrifice he has made to our country by contributing to this fund.
This is the man Dave is. This is his most recent post on Facebook:
THE FREEDOM YOU LIVE BY
Most people will never know what it is like to have a friend willing to give his life for yours. People forget about wars past WWII when innocent life's were lost,Korean war,Vietnam, gulf war. Then 9/11 happened and once again we were called upon to defend our country and help those who can not help themselves. We may no longer be in but that does not mean we have forgotten. Many paid the highest price for your freedom you live by. They did it so others didn't have to. Others come home and we don't belong, no one understands, the loved ones we lost while overseas and funerals of family while deployed. I am PROUD I served even though I live everyday of my life fighting pain both physically and mentally. Also the wife who tries to help us but doesn't know what to do,how to, and even if she did we would complain, because that is what we do best. I would do it a billion times over, I do not regret a single moment. Semper FI
