David Rose Special School Guyana
Donation protected
Hello everyone! I'm currently studying Speech & Hearing Science at the University at Buffalo, aspiring to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. I'll be doing some valuable volunteer work in my home country of Guyana & I have been assigned to work with the one and only professional serving as SLP in the entire country! Currently, the field isn't quite developed there but the need is present & I'd like to do my part in raising awareness for the facilitation of communication; one of the many roles of the SLP.
How do I plan on doing so? ...by raising funds for the David Rose Special School! Students who are physically and/or mentally disabled are educated at the school located in Georgetown; the country's capital. In an article published by Kaieteur News, the Head of the Deaf Association of Guyana stated, “Special Education-Needs teachers, whether they are assigned to the deaf or children with learning disabilities, have been given very little and expected to give very much.” It is unfortunate that the children bear the brunt of the lack of resources. We often take for granted our ability to effectively communicate our thoughts, ideas and emotions. Or even have a meaningful conversation with someone who cares; as the stigma associated with disability is still high. For a moment, please put yourself in the shoes of one of these children or a parent, who can only do so much.
It is my heart's greatest desire to improve the state of disabled persons in my home country, starting with the youth of The David Rose School. You too can help by contributing to this cause. ALL funds raised will be donated to the school upon my arrival to Guyana, THIS December. The goal, depending on how much is raised, is to implement different communication programs/activities for the students and/or families to engage. How exciting would it be for these deserving students to start the 2017 school year with new and valuable resources?
The fundraising ends right before Christmas Day/Dec 25th. Let us spread some Holiday cheer! Thank you for your consideration and generosity! No amount is too small.
