Dream Big: Help Lee Get to LA?
11 years ago I was a Prison Guard. I remember sitting on the cell block thinking to myself, "Lee, this can't be it. You're meant for so much more in this life than just working this job...
...You're meant to be an actor."
One of my co-workers, another officer, laughed at me and said, "It's time for you to wake up and let that little acting dream go. This is the real world and dreams don't really come true. I used to wanted to be a drummer. I was pretty good too. But life happened and reality set in. I'm gonna remind you about this conversation in 7 years when you're still here locking ******* up."
I don't know what hurt me more, his laughter or the fact I almost believed him.
I nearly gave up.
That night, a good friend of mine and co-worker said to me, "He's only right if you let him be right. You ARE meant for big things. I can see it too! And you're going to change the world. You're too damn stubborn not to."
I so needed to hear that at that exact time. Often times, it's our friends who become our angels.
Well, it's been 11 years and in two months, I'll be making history as the 1st African-American male to graduate with his Master's Degree in Drama from The Juilliard School in New York City.
In three weeks, I'm heading to LA for my final showcase to meet with (and potentially sign with) some of the biggest agents and managers in Hollywood but I need help getting there. I'm asking for your help with my basic needs: travel, lodging, food, car rental, & gas money.
I truly believe we can have anything we want in this life as long as we have the courage to ask for it specifically while also putting in the work. I know none of us can do it alone. I'm working hard on my end but I need your help with this next step in my journey.
I'm asking you to donate $25, $20, or $10 to help me cross the finishline of a life long dream. No donation is too small. No act of kindness will go unappreciated.
If you're unable to donate, it costs you nothing to share this campaign.
With all the sincerity and gratitude I can muster, thank you.
Your brother in humanity,
Lee Edward Colston II
