Erin's Medtreks Trip to Kenya!
Donation protected
Ever since becoming a nurse I've always wanted to volunteer medically overseas and now I will finally have my chance! This July I will be traveling to Kenya for 2 weeks along with other medical professionals from the MedTreks team! We will be volunteering our time and skills with Village HopeCore International in expanding their Mobile School-Based Medical Clinic Program. Here is how your gift will impact the children of Kenya: $50= 30 mosquito nets distributed to a classroom of children $100= 30 mosquito nets and 30 de-worming medications $300= hosts 1 medical and educational school clinic $500= hosts 1 maternal/child health workshop $1,500=hosts a full week of school clinics You may also request that your money go to a certain supply such as $500 for mosquito nets or $20 dollars for antibiotics. I'm super excited to volunteer with this organization! Village HopeCore International has been providing a very effective community health program to over 500 villages in a rural area of Kenya for over 15 years. Their multi-faceted public health programs offer a variety of medical education and services to over 100,000 villagers. Please visit their website to see all the great work they do at: http://villagehopecore.org The existing mobile school-based clinic program is currently implementing successful mobile clinics in over 70 schools in the villages surrounding Mt. Kenya. I'm raising money to help expand this effective program, to provide more mobile clinics and allow their services to reach more children. During these school clinics I will be assisting with: -Conducting well-child assessments, eye exams, and glucose checks -Implementing age-appropriate presentations on various health topics including hand hygiene, Malaria prevention, and water disinfection -Screening for diseases such as Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis -Treating common childhood illnesses including Malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and intestinal worms as well as administering immunizations -Assisting with Child Maternal Health Clinics promoting education for mothers with breastfeeding, immunizations, family planning, nutrition and water disinfection -Providing workshops for community health workers on health topics such as well-child assessments, wound care, CPR and basic first aid -Setting up a Medical Education and Resource library for the community health workers I am hoping to obtain funding for various supplies that will be utilized for the mobile clinic program including: Mosquito nets, antibiotics, de-worming medications, immunizations, and basic clinic equipment ( health charts, blood pressure cuffs, thermometers, medical textbooks etc). Any contribution would be greatly appreciated! 100% of your contributions will go directly to the Maternal/Child Health Mobile Clinics. Village HopeCore International is a registered 501 (c) (3) charity. ID #95-3841347 (so your donation is tax deductible). I appreciate your support and any contributions and am happy to answer any questions. Thank you for your time and consideration! Sincerely, Erin Berman, RN, EMT
