Ernestina Runs Tokyo

Dear Family and Friends:

I need your help!!  Many of you know that I am a runner.  I took up the hobby several years ago, mainly because I had lots of time on my hands and needed a positive outlet for stress besides happy hour.  A good friend tricked me into believing that there was no difference between a 5K and a 10k, which later led to an eventual half-marathon in 2008.  SUCKER!   Later, another friend, Sachi Hamai,  tricked me and a few other fools into running the L.A. Marathon.  Lucky us, it turned out to be the rainiest race in L.A. Marathon history!    Many races later, you can say I drank the running Kool-aid and may have convinced a few other friends/fools to join the running cult.   LOVE YOU ALL!

The great thing about logging all these miles, besides the obvious health benefits (a freakishly slow heartbeat, no more fat days, enjoying cheeseburgers guilt-free), are the friends I’ve made.  You really get to know someone after pounding many miles of pavement.  I’ve been lucky to make two great friends through running, Sachi Hamai and Ernestina Rhind.   We’ve ran many races together and have separation anxiety when one of us runs a race without the other, a little co-dependent?  Maybe.   I’ll be running the NYC marathon without them, because it was a lottery draw, they weren’t selected. WAH!!! We made a pact though, the next race we put in for, it is one for all and all for one. The three of us entered the 2015 Tokyo Marathon.  Keep in mind 305,000 applicants apply and only 35,000 are selected. We figured we'd try our luck and vowed that if one of us got in, we would all go, even if it meant fundraising/begging for help for the race.

Well the good news is two of us were selected.  Bad news, one was not.  So, I stand here before you, asking for a little help with a small fundraising effort that will benefit the Tokyo Disaster Prevention & Emergency Medical Service Association.  The good news about your donation, it could potentially save thousands of lives and Ernestina gets to run the race!  The only bad news is, it is not tax-deductible! It has.......something to do with IRS regulations.  BLAH!

Any donation amount will be kindly appreciated!!
