FireFund-Baby Yuna Rose &Mom Andrea

Hello,
I am writing you to ask for your help. Please find it in your heart to take the time to read this story about a tragic fire that has my cousins hospitalized.

My cousin and her 2 young children (Andrea a loving mom, age 24, her heroic son, James, age 5, and precious Baby Yuna Rose, age 2) were victims of a horrible apartment fire on the morning of Wednesday, March 8th in Phoenix.

Both Baby Yuna Rose and Mom Andrea are  very seriously burned, in critical condition and are being treated in an ICU of a Burn Unit.

Given their condition, both have been placed in medically induced comas since their arrival to the hospital. They both require multiple surgeries, it is unknown yet how many surgeries they will have to endure. We have been told that their time in the hospital could be anywhere from 3 to 5 months. That is a guestimate as they have no way of knowing exactly how long.

Even through all of the pain Andrea was in,  she is a MOM & the first thing on her mind was her children!! Andrea was told James would be ok so she was very clear when she was able to talk before she was put into the medically induced coma that she wanted James to go stay with her "Nana Ama" (Her grandma Maria) upon his release from the hospital. Andrea knows James already had stress and anxiety even before the extremely traumatic event that he went through, the horrific fire.
Andrea knows there he will feel safe and be comfortable with less anxiety and stress.  By staying with Nana Ama he can continue to attend his current school.
Even in her condition Andrea wanted what she felt was best for James, consistency and stability.  ANDREA IS A STRONG AMAZING MOTHER THAT PUTS HER CHILDRENS' NEEDS FIRST, before
her own! !!

The doctors say:

Mom Andrea has burns on approximately 40% of her body. The doctors say they are “Full Thickness” which is equivalent to 3rd degree burns and some possible 4th degree burns. Most of her burns are on her upper body, including her head, face, back, chest and arms. She also has various burns throughout her body, including her legs.

Baby Yuna Rose has burns on approximately 30%-35% of her body. Her burns are also “Full Thickness” (equivalent to 3rd degree burns). Her burns are sporadic. She is burned in various places throughout her body, from her ear to her toes.

Currently (3/23), the baby also has an infection in her lungs that she is being treated for.

Both Baby Yuna Rose and Mom Andrea are going to need plastic surgery, when their bodies can handle it. At this time, their medical insurance seems to classify plastic surgery as cosmetic and NOT a Medical Necessity!

But I say it is reconstructive surgery. Please don’t misunderstand, it is not about vanity but that we don't want Mom Andrea and Baby Yuna Rose to have to see their scars and re-live the terrible fire every time they see them. This event in itself is traumatizing!

Plus Big Brother James has not even seen his mom nor sister since the fire. He is unable to given their condition. I can’t imagine how he will feel seeing them for the first time after the fire, especially if they do not receive great plastic surgery, despite what their medical insurance will or will not pay for.

Doctors have said that there is a possibility that Mom Andrea may need a wheelchair when she leaves the hospital. If that happens, not only will they have to find a new place to live, they will need a home that is wheelchair accessible.

Here is just a brief summary of what we've pieced together of what happened:

Firefighters said it is thought to have been an electrical fire.

On the morning of Wednesday, March 8th, Little James heard popping from the wall and then saw smoke so he woke up his mommy, Andrea. The apartment was engulfed in flames so quickly.
Thankfully Mom Andrea was able to break a window and throw James out. James suffered from smoke inhalation and a few cuts but thankfully he was released from the hospital on Thursday, March 9th.

Mommy Andrea then went to try and get Baby Yuna Rose but it was so smoky she couldn't see her.  Andrea was out but being the amazing mommy that she is and with the terrifying thoughts about her baby, she went back in despite the flames, trying to get to Baby Yuna Rose. During all of that, Mom Andrea suffered severe burns! The firefighters arrived and they went in and got Yuna Rose out.

There is a news story with a Press Release video (FaceBook) that includes Firefighter Pierce’s heart wrenching words regarding his rescue of Baby Yuna Rose.

The flames not only burned their bodies, it left them with absolutely nothing. The blazes of the fire destroyed all they owned.

We know that Baby Yuna Rose and Mom Andrea’s lives are the greatest gift ever and our family is so grateful they are alive.

Big Brother, James (age 5); Miriam Munoz, Andrea’s Mother/grandma to Baby Yuna Rose; Victor Munoz, stepfather to Andrea; and Andrea’s sisters, Ana, Zulema and Victoria, are truly grateful for your help! The words "Thank You" are not enough to express the pure feelings we have for the love, support, kind words, and prayers that continue to be received from many. And we still say, THANK YOU for being here for Baby Yuna Rose and Mom Andrea and their family as they endure this horrific time.
Chris Roller, James & Yuna Rose’s father, (who was not home and not there for the horrific fire)
along with the rest of the family are eternally grateful to the firemen and the great medical team caring for our loved ones.

Thank you for opening up your hearts and contributing toward the healing of Miriam's babies! Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated.
