Food for Thought Waltham

Donation protected
Here's some food for thought: Can you imagine trying to learn when your stomach won’t stop growling? Or being picked on because you can't afford something as simple as lunch?

Every year families in Waltham have to make an impossible choice between a lunch for their children and other basic necessities.  In fact, one in ten families in Massachusetts is experiencing food insecurity right now.

I’m Clarence Richardson and my wife Anna and I started this fundraising campaign to help make sure no child in Waltham goes hungry, or is bullied, because they cannot afford a nutritious breakfast or lunch at school.

Funds will be used to pay off overdue lunch accounts for kids in the Waltham Public Schools. Anna and I will match the first $300 dollars of donations, which will pay off accounts for Waltham’s kids who are most in need. These are children from families who didn’t know they qualified for free or reduced lunch until a bill arrived they simply could not afford to pay.

Will you help us?

Even with the reduced lunch program, many families still struggle and they need your help. These are people working incredibly hard, sometimes at multiple jobs, who may earn just enough to not qualify for free food, but are still struggling. We want to help them too.

Your donation will mean that these families have their children's lunches paid for and that an outstanding bill is not an obstacle for these children to graduate or go on to succeed. Because kids who are hungry or being picked on can't focus on their education.

Why not give to the school directly? I’ve been in touch with Superintendent Echelson’s Office and it is best if the schools receive these funds as one gift. Receiving a lot of small payments is difficult for the schools to administer. I’ve opened a dedicated bank account for this drive and will provide a full list of donors to the Waltham Public Schools with the total donation amount after the drive ends on April 1, 2017.

Please join Anna and me in paying off these school lunch debts so  kids in Waltham's schools can focus on what matters most: LEARNING!
