Geek Girls Society Nonprofit Fees
Geek Girls Society Geek Girls Society started as an after school club for girls age 8-16, to give them a place to celebrate their unique geekiness with other like-minded girls. They do crafts, play games, earn badges in things like cosplay, fan fiction, comic book history, and so much more.
All the girls who join Geek Girls Society feel that they have finally found their "people", the ones who understand what it's like to be deeply passionate about Harry Potter, or Percy Jackson, or comic books, or Doctor Who, or Buffy, or a myriad of other fandoms.
The most important character trait we promote here is respect. We teach the girls to have respect for themselves and respect for each other. This means we don't judge others for what they love, and we are never embarrassed about what we love. We let our geek flags fly and we support each other!
We have had such an overwhelming outpouring of support and encouragment from the local community and beyond, and the messages have come pouring in, asking us to offer Geek Girls Society in other cities and states. We'd also like to make it low-cost or free for all girls to participate, but we need to establish our non-profit status first, so we can start fundraising for them.
We would love nothing more than to make that a reality, but first things first!
We need to establish Geek Girls Society as an official non-profit organization, so we can start the process of growing into something much larger than just one group of girls in one city.
We will use the funds we raise to pay the substantial legal fees involved in starting a new member-based non-profit, as well as pay for consulting fees so that we can be sure we are getting off on the right foot!
Any funds collected over and above our legal costs will be used to purchase materials and supplies, books, and badges, or to fund field trips.
We are also setting up a wish list for those who would like to sponsor a membership for girls who cannot afford the $30 a month and one-time $35 registration fee that we currently charge in order to keep this organization funded. The fees cover their custom badges, ties, snacks, craft materials, and payroll when we hire help for specific activities.
We have many girls that would like to join but cannot, due to financial reasons, and at this time we are not yet set up to cover their fees for them or allow them free memberships. (Once we are fully established as a non-profit, we hope it will be free or very low cost to all girls who wish to participate.)
This is a cause that is so important to young girls who are passionate, creative, imaginative, a little outside the box, and who just need a safe place to express themselves and be guided through the murky waters of adolescence, away from the internet where most of these girls turn to find people to relate to.
The Geek Girls would be so grateful for your support so we can bring this little club to girls all over the country and beyond!
