Trail from Geist to Fort Harrison

Donation protected
Over 35,000 people live in the Geist Area. Unfortunately there is currently no safe connection between Geist, and the trails of Indianapolis, other than getting in your car, or taking your life in your hands by walking, running or biking along Fall Creek.  Until Now!

Due to the ongoing efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers,  an 8 foot wide natural surface trail has been cut, and now connects the Geist Dam all the way to the complex at 79th and Fall Creek, including to the loop trail behind the Kroger Complex and all the way to Fall Creek (the river). Our plan is to connect this path to Fort Harrison State Park, and we are almost there. Rest assured, this is a goal that we absolutely WILL acheive.  A huge amount of work has been done so far, including the removal of heavy brush using rented equipment, the removal of dead/fallen trees, the removal of stumps, roots, and other debris along the approximately 2 mile trail from the dam to where the trail currently ends at Fall Creek. Two bridges and one wooden walkway have already been built, and additional improvements are ongoing. Some trails were already in place, but they have never been connected. Our goal is to connect them all into a complete and easily bikable/walkable path.

To date, this project has been entirely funded  by a few families, with just over $2,000 spent on everything from rental equipment, to lumber, to chain saws and replacement blades, as well as other supplies and equipment to build the bridges and walkways that are currently in place.  We are now asking local residents and users of the trail to help out by donating to assist with the costs of these improvements. The good news is that we are not asking you to pitch in for something that we are PLANNING to do. The fact is that much of the work is already done, and you can see the results of our efforts simply by walking the trail yourself.

The City of Indianapolis has been talking about this trail for decades, but so far, nothing whatsoever has been done, and worse yet, nothing is scheduled! We as citizens, have taken this project into our own hands, and we are making it happen. If you have always wanted to have a safe trail connecting the Geist area to Indianapolis, please pitch in for our efforts, and in addition, please volunteer your time to make this happen. Walk or bike the trail we have created, and you will see where the money has gone. Let's get this done!

Thanks for your support. We ABSOLUTELY will have our trail to Indianapolis, and you have my promise that we will not stop building until it's complete.

Thanks again, and we'll see you on the trail.
