AK Young delegate going to the DNC!

Hello! My name is Genevieve Mina, and I am an enthusiastic young Filipina democrat from Anchorage. During the past Alaska Democratic Convention, I was elected as a National Delegate (pledged to Senator Bernie Sanders) - one of only 20 Alaskan representatives for the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, PA.
About a year ago, I accidentally fell in love with local politics. Beforehand, I was afraid to commit to a political party. But, since volunteering for Ethan Berkowitz' winning Mayoral race, my newfound passion for campaigns and progressive values never disappeared. I'm now a proud Democrat. I volunteer for campaigns and non-profits with the Alaska Young Democrats, I push for civic engagement to fellow students as the acting president of the UAA College Democrats, and I am District 19's Young Democrat (one of the most diverse districts in the country)!
Having the opportunity to travel to the 2016 DNC will be life-changing for me as a young, first generation Asian-American. Living in Alaska restricts my activism to the North, but I yearn for the opportunity to increase civic engagement from a national perspective. I recognize that millenials are all around me. Millenials share my same values and frustrations. But, we JUST DON'T VOTE. The opinions of both millenials and people of color are unrepresented in our government. I want to change that. We are the now.
I am personally endorsing Senator Bernie Sanders because I recognize that our current political climate is unresponsive to the will of the most vulnerable in our society. Senator Sanders is the catalyst that our political system desperately needs to improve - we need to work on the engregious income inequality in our nation, and strive to serve those voices that cannot be heard.
As a full-time college student, I am unable to fund this trip alone. I will be fundraising for the trip to Philadelphia until July 18th. Any support would be much appreciated to offset my own financial strains from attending university. Leftover funds will be donated to the Alaska Democratic Party.
