Haiti Family Holiday Hygiene Campaign
Donation protected
Who: This holiday season - Social Tap, Inc The Haiti Initiative (THI) is hosting a Holiday Drive for Haiti with the support of volunteers and collaborative efforts from the Yale Alumni Association of New York (YAANY).
What: Haiti for the Holidays Toy Drive & Family Hygiene Kit Distribution
We Have Set 2 Ambitious Haiti Holiday Drive Goals:
1st: Collecting toys through in-kind donations for over a 100 Haitian youth.
2nd: Fundraise for 40 Family Holiday Hygiene Kits which at $20 per kit - puts our fundraising goal at $800 US.
In order to address the 1st Goal of the Haiti Holiday Toy Drive:
We began the drive on November 18th & it will be held through December 7th online. On December 13th a team of volunteers departs for Jacmel, Haiti through the 20th. The toys requested can be found online on Social Tap's Amazon Holiday Wish List: http://amzn.com/w/39PDJP03UXIYP
How:
On December 13th a team of volunteers fly down to Jacmel, Haiti from New York and Florida carrying all of the donated in-kind toys in their luggage in order to personally deliver the donated gifts! We are hoping to reach our goal for the youth which The Haiti Initiative serves in the rural communities outside of the city of Jacmel and make it a holiday season that they will never forget :)
Why: During the trip the volunteers will be distributing the toys & participating in activities with the different youth groups within the community promoting play therapy and safe spaces. Promoting the importance to the parents of engagement with their children in active play where the child feel safe and is able to express themselves - creating an environment for imagination and growth.
The importance of play may appear simple it is also an idea that can be rather unique among local families who are continuously struggling to support their family on less than 2 dollars a day. Children 5 years old begin the routine task of collecting water for the household in the early hours of the morning and will be sent out at dusk to collect firewood. All children deserve a childhood and the more opportunities for play increases the youth's chance in realizing their full developmental milestones. The Haiti for the Holidays Toy Drive is solely for the youth and is reliant on in-kind donations from the Amazon Holiday Toy Wish List: http://amzn.com/w/39PDJP03UXIYP

In order to reach our second goal for distributing 40 Family Holiday Hygiene Kits we have set a fundraising goal of $800.
Who: The 40 families selected for this special holiday distribution are the families of the "Youth for the Development of Cyvadier Saturday Program" who are included in the toy drive. We have an on-going relationship with the youth's parents as we encourage their active participation in their child's education and development through our Youth Educational Sponsorship Program.
What: The Family Holiday Hygiene kits would be inclusive of:
Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, floss, deodorant, bars of soap, body lotion, toilet paper, shampoo, women's sanitary napkins, brush/comb, a shaving razor & water treatment tablets/solution along with other hygienic products.
When: November 27th marks the 1st day of the online fundraising campaign, and it will remain active through December 31st 2013 in order to reach our financial goal of $800!
Where: The items from the list are available in Haiti and to help promote local consumption and economic development we aim to purchase all of the hygiene products locally from Jacmel, Haiti.
The Haiti for the Holiday's volunteer team will schedule activities with the kids from the "Youth for the Development of Cyvadier Program" to help assemble the 40 Family Holiday Hygiene Kits during the upcoming trip (Dec. 13th - 20th) and will collectively deliver.
Why Family Hygiene Kits:
Hygiene is a major issue in Haiti. Most families are forced to share one outdoor latrine, which they will share with sometimes over 30 individuals. Cholera, an epidemic that was introduced post earthquake to Haiti has claimed over 8,352 lives since October 2010 and hospitalized over 380,855 remains latent in Haiti but will peak in areas where there is no access to clean water, and poor access to sanitation and hygiene services.
The Family Hygiene Kits will help promote and build a continuous education and awareness around the necessities of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene both personal and oral.
How You Can Help:
Please consider making a financial contribution of $20 for 1 Family Holiday Hygiene Kit as we strive towards reaching our goal of fundraising $800 for the 40 Family Holiday Kits over the next two weeks.
With your support we can reach over 200 individuals, both young and old this holiday season in the local rural communities we serve outside of the city of Jacmel, Sud Est Department of Haiti.

A donation of any amount can be made through the GoFundMe Online Campaign
