Hello my name is Marcus Martinez (aka isopoly), first off thank you for clicking on the link. I really appreciate you taking the time to come here.
About 4 months ago my sister was moving into the family home, I'd been staying there for about 6 months, I was beginning work at a new job and everything else was pretty normal.
Until one day at the end of march I woke up to my mom frantically busting through my bedroom door, exclaiming to me that my stepfather had fallen and she needed my help getting him up off the floor.
I jumped out of bed and ran into the room to see my semi naked stepfather lying face down on the ground beside his bed, something was definitely wrong he wasn't talking that well and when I tried to help him up, it was like trying to lift pure weight.
So I yelled at my mom to help me get him up, and we grabbed him however we could but It was still too hard. His Leg was bent under the bed, so my mom told him to move his leg from under the bed and he mumbled that He is moving his leg, and after that sat in our heads for a second my mom started to panic. We finally were able to prop him on the bed and he looked almost asleep, my mom exclaimed again "Oh no baby, you've had a stroke!" then I started to panic. I yell "Call the fucking ambulance!!" The most paranoid panicky 4 mins ensued, they come in and take him to hospital.
We all meet at the hospital, and we find out that he had a massive stroke and is paralyzed and blind on his left side. I would say that was one of if not the most difficult day of my life.
Flash forward to now and why I need all of your help, Even before he had his stroke we were struggling but we were making it by. My sister moving in was her way of helping out the household as well allowing her to save for her kids and herself, her and my mom have had a lot of arguments since it happened and my sister is basically saying fuck this and she's moving to oklahoma, which she did. I know we are not her problem but I still think it's a really messed up thing to do at a time like this.
My stepfather took care of the most important bill the rent, and we took care of everything else. When someone (usually me) was down and out, everyone pitched in to take care of whatever pressing issue the household had. Without his help everything slowly but surely started to go to shit, bills fell further and further into lateness, food became scarce and limited, even hygiene the ability to take showers and wash clothes became way less frequent.
Living in texas in the summer, and not being able to turn on the ac for fear that the electricity would be shut off (here we have prepaid electricity). Then the medical bills and convalescent home bills and fees started to pile up. Massive amounts of money we just don't have..
On top of that my mom was taking it extremely hard, for things to turn on a dime like that. Was hard for us all to cope with, but for her it seemed impossible to fathom. Days of intense optimism fled into nights of pain and loneliness. Me and my mother don't always see eye to eye but I love her, and I hope you all can help me, Help my family.
Whatever I am able to raise with this GoFundMe will go to the bills , mainly next months rent which I know we will be short on. As well as food for the house , as well whatever else I can help with.
