Help Me Become an Engineer

Hello everyone,
My name is Camila Key, and I am a sophomore international student from Venezuela in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Miami. I started studying in Miami on Fall 2015 with the purpose of studying a major in engineering that would let me work in the medical field, since such field (Bioengineering) does not exist as a major in my country. However, in the present I have been forced to interrupt my studies for this Spring semester (2nd semester of my 2nd year of studies) because of the financial situation my family and country is going through. Under these circumstances, I am asking for your help to keep studying and so that I can obtain a degree in the career I have always dreamed to pursue.
From the start I have been able to study this major thanks to the President’s Scholarship given by the University of Miami, since it made possible for me to afford the education. Granted that, my parents were able to finance the rest of my expenses with their savings which in the end was enough to keep me in college for a year and a half. With this in mind, our plan was to save more money during my freshman year with my parents’ income to pay for the rest of my sophomore year in college. Afterwards, I would look for loans given by the Organization of American States to complete my education since these are only given for the last two years of education to undergraduate students. Additionally, I researched for private loans, but since I am an international student any institution or bank lends me in the US me unless I have cosigner which I do not.
However, while studying the situation in my country, Venezuela, turned so dire that it is the worst economic and political crisis in the last 60 years of this country, being addressed by the United Nations and the Organization of American States (OAS) as a humanitarian crisis, and to this day it has only gotten worse. Likewise, this has affected my parents’ income, reducing it by a fifth of what their income was at the start of my studies (on 2015) and their principal assets which value have fallen dramatically making it very difficult for them to finance my studies. Provided that, I started a part time job at the university, but this only made possible the coverage of my basic needs aside from housing while studying in the US.
Eventually, given the situation worsen day in and day out, I had to hold on my studies for this Spring 2017 and go back to Venezuela to look for resources that would give me the chance to finish this last semester of sophomore year, so that later I can apply for loans at OAS. As a way to try everything that can be done for me to continue, I am now asking for your help to continue my education. Your help would allow me to pursue my dream of studying this major and contributing in the neuroscience field. Any kind of help will be deeply appreciated.

Mi nombre es Camila Key, soy una venezolana en su segundo año de Ingeniería Biomédica (carrera de 4 años) en University of Miami. Llegué a esta universidad en Agosto de 2015 luego de egresar del Colegio Emil Friedman (CEF) en Caracas, con el firme propósito de estudiar Ingeniería Biomédica, una carrera en la que podría desarrollar mi pasión por las ciencias médicas y la ingeniería que no se puede estudiar en mi país a nivel universitario.
Luego de terminar mi tercer semestre me he visto forzada a interrumpir mis estudios debido a la difícil situación económica de mi familia y mi país que impide que mis padres continúen asumiendo esta carga financiera. Es por esto que recurro a este medio para solicitar ayuda en mi interés de obtener un título en esta carrera que es mi sueño.
Ingresé a University of Miami gracias a que me fue otorgada una Beca Presidencial (President’s Scholarship) por parte de la misma universidad, lo que junto a ahorros que habían hecho mis padres alcanzaría para financiar un año y medio de los gastos de matrícula y manutención en Miami. Nuestro plan era que mis padres continuarían ahorrando para pagar el resto del segundo año, al final del cual intentaríamos aplicar a créditos estudiantiles de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) ya que éstos sólo se pueden acceder para los dos últimos años de carrera en pregrado. No puedo aplicar a créditos estudiantiles privados ya que siendo una estudiante internacional requiero tener un cofirmante o fiador, lo que no poseo en este momento.
Durante el año y medio que estuve activamente estudiando la situación económica en mi país se deterioró drásticamente siendo considerada la peor crisis que se tenga noticias en los últimos 60 años y ha sido catalogada por organismos como la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) y la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) como una crisis humanitaria. En este marco los ingresos de mis padres se redujeron a un quinto de lo que eran al inicio de mis estudios. Igualmente el valor de mercado los principales activos familiares, lo que ha dificultado que me continúen financiando de la misma manera. Trabajé tiempo parcial en la universidad pero esto sólo alcanzaba para cubrir gastos básicos.
Ante esta situación me vi forzada a interrumpir mis estudios para el semestre de Primavera 2017 y regresar a mi país a planificar la búsqueda de recursos que me permitan terminar mi segundo año y poder aplicar a créditos estudiantiles de la OEA a principios del tercer año. Su ayuda me permitiría perseguir mi sueño de estudiar Ingeniería Biomédica y de contribuir en el campo de la neurociencia. Cualquier ayuda será muy apreciada.
