Huebner Elementary Destination Imagination has qualified to  compete at the Destination Imagination Global Finals!

What is Destination Imagination?

Destination Imagination, Inc. is a non-profit that helps kids around the world discover their creativity. We create programs that teach the creative process, so kids can solve problems in astonishing ways. Our kids build a lifelong confidence in working together to solve any challenge.

Our organization was incorporated in 1999, when we took over the charter for OM Association, Inc. Since then, our non-profit has impacted more than a million participants. About 125,000 youth make friends and learn the creative process through our programs every year, and 38,000 volunteers support us!

All of our programs are Challenge based, and they teach the creative process. Our goal is to help kids learn to be creative in every aspect of their lives.

Our Challenge program is our most popular offering. Destination Imagination is an international tournament for kids. At the start of the season, teams choose one of seven Challenges. After weeks spent creating and developing their solutions, they go to a local tournament. Top-scoring teams advance to state or country tournaments. The top level of the tournament is our Global Finals"”the world's largest celebration of creativity.

Our programs are developed annually to ensure they are relevant and align to National Education Standards, STEM standards, ELA Common Core Standards and Mathematics Common Core Standards. Every year, with the help of volunteers and subject matter experts, we design new, exciting Challenges for kids.

Destination Imagination teams that advance past Regional and state/country (Affiliate) tournaments are invited to participate in Global Finals"”the world's largest celebration of creativity.

Global Finals is the culminating event of every Destination Imagination season. In May, over 1,200 teams from teams from 45 states, 7 Canadian provinces and 13 countries gather to showcase their Challenge solutions. Over 15,000 people attend Global Finals to celebrate creativity and have fun.

Why is this important for Huebner Elementary & NEISD?

This is the fourth year that Huebner has been a part of the Destination Imagination competition. The team has been working hard since October to prepare their challenge that they presented at the regional competition on March 1, 2014. The group of students had to select a piece of art created by an artist who was born in a nation other than the US. They had to write a story to theatrically perform in a comic strip format. They also had to create a Caption Contraption to make the captions appear. Finally, they had to create an ARTifact that is inspired by the work of art they selected.

After a lot of team work, problem solving, and creativity, the students earned second place at the regional competition in New Braunfels, TX. This advanced them onto the state competition in Pflugerville, TX on April 12, 2014. Once again, the team had an outstanding performance and took third place out of 20 teams at the state level. The group of fourth and fifth graders were able to earn a spot at the next level of competition, Global Finals. The team will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee in May, along with about 1,300 teams from 14 countries.

The Huebner Elementary Destination Imagination team is thrilled about the opportunity to not only represent their school, district, city, and state at the Global Finals, but also to represent their very own country!

Why we need your support:

As of April 18, 2014 we do not have the support of NEISD.  We have had our initial request to the NEISD denied.  We have appealed to Dr. Gottardy and are awaiting his answer.  Regardless, it is not in the NEISD budget to fund elementary students to attend out of state competitions.  Therefore, it is up to the six students and their families to fund the trip.  We need your help!  Our goal is to raise $10,000 before May 18th.  This will cover our entry fees, travel to Tennessee, lodging, and other unexpected costs.

We know this is a very short amount of time to raise these funds. But we also know that the Huebner Elementary family is dedicated to supporting their students.  We are the ONLY NEISD team competing this year.  Let's get together and show the WORLD how amazing these kids are!
