Early Wednesday morning, the rainbow painted front doors of Wedgewood Church in Charlotte were vandalized with the phrase "Fags Are Pedofhiles." This is the seventh time that our church has been vandalized. While this could be a reason to fear, we choose to stand together stronger than ever, ready to continue to be the welcoming, open, affirming congregation we have always been.
We are raising money to re-paint the doors. Additionally, in order to prevent future vandalizations, we are raising money to install a security system and to upgrade our protections for the first floor of our church. If there is leftover money, we have about $100,000 worth of needed repairs so the money will be allocated to the other repairs.
If you are unable to give, please stay tuned for our repainting the doors community event!
We begin each service reciting and affirming the following:
Welcome to a church that works for peace, justice, equality, and care of Mother Earth. An extravagant welcome to you regardless of your gender identification or sexual orientation, ethnicity, economic situation, physical and mental challenges, doubting or believing, being depressed or full of joy. We are a community of curious and creative spiritual seekers, striving to learn and embody the Way of Jesus and other religious leaders. Like Jesus, we focus on the plundered and the marginalized, as we try to address the major issues of our day. One of the ways we seek to heal the world and ourselves is through sharing parts of our personal story. We are all welcome here!
