Meet the Binary Bots. A coed VEX IQ robotics team from Imagine Avondale Middle School located in Avondale, Arizona. This amazing team values perseverance and excellence in robot design, programming, and teamwork. The team is comprised of ten students who exemplify twenty-first century skills, which include becoming productive and successful members of society.
After successfully winning the VEX IQ Arizona State Teamwork Challenge Award for 2015, these young, innovative engineers have gone on this year to recruit new members, form and mentor a second Imagine Avondale robotics team, and again win this year’s 2016 Arizona State Championship for VEX IQ in Robotic Design.
On February 27th, 2016, this year’s state championship match was hosted by the Microchip Corporation, located in Chandler, Arizona. After early qualifying rounds, Imagine Avondale was able to send both of its robotics teams to this prestigious state wide competition. Once there, the two teams entered a variety of robotic competitions including teamwork, programing, robot skills, and design. While they performed exceedingly well in all categories, including the second team coming in Second Place for programming, it was the First Team and their innovative design that took home First Place in the Design Challenge.
Overall, the Robotic Design Award is presented to the team that uses an Engineering Notebook to document their learning experiences as well as their understanding and utilization of an effective and efficient robot design process. In the Engineering Notebook, along with their discussion with the judges, the students demonstrated their ability to implement an effective robot design process and produced a robot with minimal adult assistance. Their win at the Arizona State competition qualifies them to move on to the Worlds Vex IQ Competition in Louisville, Kentucky, this April, 2016. Even the Second Place finish for Programming for the Imagine Avondale’s Second Team has also qualified them to move on to VEX Worlds Finals, which is an amazing feat for such a new programming team.
The privilege to meet and work with teams from around the world is immeasurable. At this VEX World Forum our teams are able to interact with diverse cultures and be true diplomatic representatives of not only the United States but also Arizona. These student ambassadors have the privilege to promote their unique Arizona culture and diversity with the rest of the world through teamwork challenges, social events, and the marketing of our teams.
The 2016 VEX Worlds is presented by the Northrop Grumman Foundation which brings together top robotics teams in the VEX IQ Challenge, VEX Robotics Competition, and VEX U under one roof to celebrate their accomplishments and participate with the best teams from around the world. VEX Worlds will include top teams from events happening in cities around the world from June 2015 to March 2016.
We wish to thank you for supporting our endevors as we try to get to Worlds!
Sincerely,
