My friends,
You know I am a BJJ enthusiast! I have been training for over 7 years now and just earned 4 stripes on my long time purple belt. BJJ is a tough sport and I am in. You learn a lot more than how to win and lose. The sport has given me a higher happiness through exercise and the constant opportunity to learn something new. So I continue training and competing when I can. Collecting arms along the way!
Competing means a lot to me because no advantages are given. Weight discrepancy is no longer an issue. Skills are at least comparable… It is my hard work against another few who happen to be in my division. We just play the game and see who ends up on top.
I am a busy Mom and college student but I make time for sport because it keeps me healthy and gives my kids a reason to look up to me. Training is my break from obligations every day and I really believe it provides relief so that I can accomplish all that I do. Competing is my vacation. It is these times that energize and motivate me to get up every day and run the virtual marathon.
I know you can’t see the whole of it and I often fail at video recording (because busy rolling on the mat!) but the journey is for my spectators and supporters as well as it is for me. I will tell you it is not easy. I wasn’t given easy street. I am a single mom. I struggle to pay my bills but I care most for my kids, more than anything else.
I have been studying business for a few years now to improve on what I have to offer. Now I am due to graduate on the weekend following the Worlds. Coincidentally, the Tough Mudder is on the same weekend so choices are made, you see. I have maintained Dean’s list and I was inducted into the honor society. Still, I happily choose to the Mudder event over cap and gown because I am an athlete.
What I am saying is that I really appreciate your support and I enjoy sharing the journey. I can’t make these excursions all the time because of financial and life obligations. It is also mentionable that the years which I can compete in the #1 ranked event for the sport are numbered. Right now I am motivated and willing to take the risk of competing with ladies that may be much younger than myself. The Adult division is for the very best athletes and someday soon it may be time to move up to a less prestigious age bracket.
Thank You for reading. I hope you can make a contribution to help me to get there this year with a little less financial burden. I could also use some non-monetary help.
