Jason Surnoski and Phoenix are currently ranked on the Equestrian Canada, Para Dressage National Team Program - Development Squad and they are setting their sights on qualifying for and representing Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games . In order to do this the pair need to set out and compete at numerous international CPEDI3* competitions across Canada and the United States over the next two years.
Fiercely devoted to Canada, and wanting nothing more than to represent our country on the international stage, Jason will do his absolute best in training and at each and every competition! But he needs financial assistance to help cover the expense of getting not only himself, but also his horse to CPEDI's across North America.
Jason is classified as a grade 2 para athlete . He was diagnosed as an infant with spastic cerebral palsy and right sided hemiplegia. Cerebral palsy influences movement and coordination, as well as having adverse effects on posture and balance. Jason's condition is primarily right sided , however his left side is also affected and as such this results in difficulties with gross and fine motor skills. Distance perception and spatial awareness is also impaired. But this has never stopped Jay in striving for the top.
Funds raised through this campaign will help Jason cover the costs of transporting himself and his competition mount, Phoenix, to Wellington, FL in early 2019 to compete at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CPEDI3* . It will also help cover accommodation costs and competition fees.
Scores earned at the AGDF CPEDI3* can propel Jason to the higher ranks of the National Team Program where he will have greater access to the supports needed to make it to Tokyo.
Grateful doesn't even begin to cover how appreciative Jason is of all those who have helped him in the past and who continue to help him to reach his dreams in the future. It really does take a village to raise any one person to the top. We'd like to invite you to be part of Jason's journey and to share in his success!
