Help Support Wildlife Rescue

On January 2, 2018 an injured snowy owl was found at the airport in Pickle Lake, Ontario by Terry Hill and Tony Levesque. Unable to fly or hunt for herself, the beautiful snowy owl was very malnourished and near death. 

Jenn Salo, a registered wildlife foster in Thunder Bay agreed to take her on and nurse the sweet owl back to health. After nearly two months of care and proper nutrition, the snowy owl, now named Luna, was released back into the wild on February 28, 2018. Her wing was sufficiently healed and she was now a healthy 4.8 lbs, as opposed to the 2.6 lbs she weighed when she was found.

Jenn, who hopes to  some day open a much-needed wildlife rehabilitation center in Thunder Bay, volunteers her time and money helping to rehabilitate wild animals in need. In fact, Jenn spent at least $300 on food and medical supplies for Luna, never mind all the other wild animals she has helped. In the same time span as Luna's recovery, Jenn also helped a Great- horned owl as well as an injured crow.

I have set up a Gofundme campaign in order to help Jenn recoup some of the costs that come out of her own pocket every year. It would be wonderful for her to exceed this goal to help her bring a wildlife rehabilitation center to Thunder Bay. Currently, the closest rehab center in Ontario is hundreds of miles away, which if you have a wild animal in distress, is much too far to go. Being in the middle of the boreal forest we have so much wildlife here and they often need our help.
