On August 31, 2016, our beloved cook, co worker and friend of 19 years Jose Hernandez was the victim of a random and senseless act of violence. After coming home from a long day of work, he was shot by a gun 5 times in the driveway of his home while getting out of his car by two men, for no reason at all. These men just wanted to have fun by shooting a person they didn't even know. They didn't rob him they just shot him, in the back, never giving him a chance to talk. His car with the keys in it, cell phone and wallet where not touched.
Jose was in intensive care in critical condition, and had many surgeries to remove the 40 and 45 calibre bullets from his body. It is a miracle he is alive and now in stable condition and recovering, but with intense daily pain. The healing process will take alot of time.
Jose and his wife have owned their lovely home in San Pablo for over 20 years where they are raising their 5 children. They attend church regularly and take part in helping the community in San Pablo.
His recovery will be a long healing process and he will be out of work for a long time. Jose has cooked delicious meals and has fed thousands of peole in the town of Fairfax with love for over 28 years, always with a smile on his face. We have never seen Jose in a bad mood, he is always happy and smiling. He is one of the hardest working men I have ever met. He loves his family, his job and his god. He is loving, kind, and one of the most non confrontational people I have ever met. He would give his shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. He didn’t deserve to be a victim of this senseless violence. Even though Jose had full medical coverage through the restaurant, he still has medical bills to pay, Please pray for him and his family.
Anything you can do to help Jose and his wife with his medical bills and recovery process would be appreciated.
Update: Sept 22, 2016,
Jose had his 50 staples removed yeterday, starting above his chest to below his belly button. He is doing better, still in much pain. But getting better with each day. His spirts are good, because he is a happy person by nature. He and his family are very thankful for every pray, note and donation given from all around the S,F. Bay area and especially from Marin where he has cooked for so many years.
Oct 19, Jose is doing better, walking more every day, we still don't know when he will be able to come back to work. He still needs much more time to heal
Thank you , Thank You Thank You for all the love.
