Exactly one year ago, (Aug. 2015) on our annual family vacation to my parents home in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Judy took a fall which resulted in a concussion that we thought was a mild jolt, soon to be forgotten.

Since then her conditioned has morphed into a multi-symptomatic, full-body illness that has left doctor after doctor mystified. In addition to the persistent postconcussive symptoms, she experiences chronic abdominal pain that varies in severity. She's lost 20 pounds that she can't gain back despite the consumption of a healthy, high-calorie diet (often hard to stomach).

She is utterly fatigued, experiences muscle soreness, cannot focus, hold sustained conversations or attention, cannot drive, and worst of all cannot go back to her work as a Psychologist that she loves so much. Add to all of this, the hourly battle to keep her spirits up while sequestered at home almost 24/7, in a persistent state of discomfort, and you get a sense of her struggle .

The good news is that our has health insurance covered many expenses. The bad news is that our health insurance doesn't cover any of the most promising tests, medicines or practitioners going forward. Moreover, Judy continues to carry the overhead of her office in Northampton, MA and the thought of abandoning this space after 20 years is abhorrent to her.

Thank goodness my business had a great year and we were able to absorb this loss to family income. But now we are facing year two and the expenses keep mounting, the savings have been tapped, and the home equity line of credit is approaching the yellow zone.

Our immediate family has made some important contributions and now, much to our chagrin, we are reaching out to friends for help in defraying the anticipated expenses of treatments by experts in Boston, Worcester and beyond who accept only partial or no health insurance. (Oye Vay, Insurance, a saga unto itself.)

Our life is full of blessings and we count them every day. Our heads are up, our hopes are high, and our gratitude is deep. If you are able, please make a contribution to our gofundme campaign so we can make sure Judy continues to obtain the treatment she needs to fully recover. And keep sending those prayers. Thanks!

Now, if we could only catch a break on the sacro-occipital, probiotic, immunoglobulin, applied kinesiology therpies and insurance appeals.

Remember, many hands make light work. Thank you.
