Kevin MacIvor
Painter and Musician
(1956-2017)
In tribute to Kevin MacIvor's recent passing, a group of his friends are planning an exhibit of his artwork and a reception at the Historical Society of Fort Lauderdale Museum on the Sunday, July 23 from 7-9 p.m.
The exhibit will be proceeded by a brick dedication from 6-7pm on Riverwalk--an area to forever be known as the Music and Arts Contributors to Fort Lauderdale Memorial. While the dedication is inspired by Kevin's passing, recognition of six beloved Fort Lauderdale artists who have passed within the last few years will be recognized. Other artists memorialized at the ceremony will include: David Shelley , Musician; Peter Giovenco, Sculptor; Lisa Hayden “Noodles” , Musician, Artist, Teacher; Bobby Load, Musician; Peter Langone, Photographer; and Dan Hosker, Musician.
In the future, this special area of reflection will be a place where friends and loved ones are able to memorialize Fort Lauderdale musicians and/or artists who pass away.
Kevin MacIvor, a prolific and accomplished artist, painted and exhibited many of his finest works in Fort Lauderdale from the early 1980s through 2009. Throughout the 80s, he worked as an Art Director in the advertising industry while building his fine art career, and in the 1990s began painting full-time. He was a mentor and friend to many younger artists.
Kevin's paintings include images from the natural world with a contemporary edge, combining depictions of wildlife, space and the human form. His work is an exploration of the relationship between these things, often alluding to an otherworldly energy.
In addition to painting, Kevin was an accomplished musician who performed and recorded with several South Florida bands. On July 23, after the exhibit, all guests are invited to the Poorhouse for a musical celebration dedicated to Kevin, David Shelley, Dan Hosker, Bobby Load and and Lisa Hayden.
Please be part of recognizing Kevin and the six other Fort Lauderdale artists on July 23 and help preserve the creative legacy of Fort Lauderdale by making a donation. Your contribution will help pay for the brick production and installation of the memorial area on Riverwalk, help cover the costs for renting the Historical Museum, mounting the exhibit, and additional costs for the reception and musical celebration.
