Kevin Mitchell is someone who left an imprint on everyone that he encountered in life. Whether it be through one of his numerous career paths, his various volunteer efforts, or just those whom he encountered on a daily basis. He had a way of making people feel at ease in uncomfortable situations, and could make just about anyone laugh or smile in any situation; even through his own health struggles and daily battle with pain.
Many know that Kevin had 2 kidney transplants, but few knew how much he truly endured over the years. Yet through it all, he smiled and offered words of advise, sarcasm and encouragement to others.
I had the pleasure of being friends with Kevin since I was 11 years old. Over the years we briefly grew apart, but would always come back together closer than ever, and I even worked on both of his political campaigns when he ran for State Representative.
A few of the other things which Kevin was passionate about (besides his love of politics and the Kennedy's), was the Nasonville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as President, as well as an EMT; Marriage Equality Rhode Island, AIDS Care Ocean State, Rhode Island Organ Donation Awareness Coalition, Rhode Island Pride where he also served as a board member, The RI Young Democrats of America, the Burrillville Democratic Town Committee, and the list goes on and on.
Sadly Kevin was taken from all of us far too soon, yet we have many memories and laughs to remember him by. Unfortunately with such an unexpected, untimely passing, comes major expenses, including both funeral and medical bills.
At the time of his passing Kevin was in South Carolina, and had to be flown back to Rhode Island where his family resides.
This GoFundMe account was put in place so that we can help Kevin's family defray the exauberant costs associated with death, and any outstanding medical expenses incurred during his last days. Any money collected in this fund that goes above and beyond what is needed for his expenses (an amount that is still yet to determined), will be split up equally and donated to Kevin's favorite non-profit organizations, which are listed above.
