LIPC to CommonBound 2016

Who We Are: The New Economy Coalition is hosting CommonBound 2016 (http://commonbound.org/), an international conference focused on visionary strategies for achieving deep systemic change this July 8-10th in Buffalo, NY. Participants will share strategies and stories, build relationships, and chart a shared path toward a society that puts people and planet first. The Long Island Progressive Coalition (http://lipc.org/) is coordinating a group of 5-10+ community leaders, activists, and organizers from across the island to attend the conference. LIPC is a multi-issue, grassroots community-based organization and an affiliate of Citizen Action of NY, that is working to build a powerful progressive movement on Long Island and beyond.

Our Goals: We aim to support LIPC members and local community leaders to attend CommonBound, in order to deepen our understanding of the interrelated crises we face and to learn about community wealth-building and other solutions that are centered on racial, economic, and environmental justice. This conference will provide a platform to strengthen our local movement for healthy and just communities. We plan to share lessons learned after the conference with the broader Long Island community through public events in the months ahead.

We are launching a grassroots fundraising campaign in order to ensure that the conference is as accessible as possible, particularly for LIPC members from historically marginalized communities. It costs approximately $250 per person to attend the conference, with a sliding scale registration at $90-275, housing at $45/night, and travel costs to Buffalo, NY.
