Chris Lower Family Medical Support

UPDATE:
After waiting over 11 months in the hospital, Chris received both his new heart and a new kidney on December 14.  His recovery went well for a few days but due to the state of his weakened immune system that was suppressed to allow his transplanted organs to thrive, he succumbed to a lung infection that was not able to be fought off due to his low immunity.

Christopher Lower passed away on December 20 after a valent fight.  He leaves behind his wife, 15 year old daughter and 9 year old twin son and daughter.

I will soon share an obituary update with the details of his Celebration of Life service that will be held on Jan 6 in Maple Grove, MN.

Funds for Hailley, Hannah and Hayden's education are appreciated as well as expenses related to his passing.

Thank you for your continued support for the Lower family.

Christopher Lower learned this week that he will require a 2nd heart transplant and must continue to live at the U of MN hospital until he receives a new donor heart.   He has been at the U since Jan 6, 2017 due to the rejection of his first heart transplant received in May 2014.   After 2 months in the ICU and a multitude of tests, procedures and heart biopsies, doctors have confirmed that he is out of rejection, however the damage has been done and the only path forward is to be relisted for a healthy new heart.

Prior to receiving the transplant in 2014, Chris had lived for 2 ½ years with an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) which literally saved his life after being in end-stage heart failure.   Oh, and if this is not enough for any one family, Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015.   She went through surgery, chemo and radiation and is now 1+ years cancer free, but must for the next 10 years stay on a prescription drug to keep the cancer from coming back.

Fortunately, the three Lowers children (Hailley 14, Hayden & Hannah 8) are happy and healthy, and Mary’s primary focus is keeping them focused on their routine, activities, and school.

Family, friends, and church ministries have rallied around Mary and family to keep things moving on the home front.   Their business home office has been relocated to the main level which will make for easier access once Chris returns home post-transplant.  Rooms have been repainted and some long overdue maintenance on their home is being addressed, in particular the need for new properly sealed windows throughout the home. When not at the hospital, Mary is coordinating volunteers and projects at their home, and running their Public Relations business.

The Lowers have self-employed for many years and do not have disability income insurance. As you can imagine, their monthly medical premiums alone are extremely high due to Chris’ past medical history.

Your GO FUND ME donations will support:

-Hospital, medical and prescription bills (past/current/future)

-Daily trips to hospital (1-hour roundtrip), gas & parking fees.

-Lost income from Chris being unable to work and Mary’s limited bandwidth due to children’s needs and trips to hospital to advocate for, and visit Chris.

 -Home repair costs/essentials (paint/new windows/feeding volunteer crews).

Thank you for your support of the Christopher and Mary Lower family!
