Support Lynda & the Sabian Symbols

My name’s Jess, and I’m Lynda’s daughter.
Lynda’s not just my mum – she’s also been my teacher, ever since she first taught me about the zodiac in the room under our house when I was seven.
From a young age, I knew Mum as a world-famous astrologer – and I was always so proud of her for her world tours and, ultimately, for her incredible life’s work on the Sabian Symbols.
For Mum, the Sabian Symbols aren’t just work – it’s a mission to help people connect to the wisdom already inside them.
It’s never been about the money, though in past years Mum was always able to make a reasonable living wage through book sales and readings. Her mission is to make this incredible body of work accessible to anyone who wants it – and many of you know how generous she is in answering any questions online, sharing her analysis of current events and keeping her community up-to-date with any and all major astrological events. On her newsletters alone, she spends more than a day writing them each fortnight – over the last 20 years, she’s done more than 400 of them.
Over the past few years, Mum’s had to spend a lot of money to keep her work going, and the income just hasn’t been able to keep up. There was a huge outlay – more than $30,000 – to print her last book, which she can’t make back on book sales, because selling them to an American audience incurs outrageous shipping and postage costs (she ships them in bulk from Sydney to California). Her new website - her websites have always included the Sabian Oracle free of charge for many years, also cost several thousand to build. She had no choice but to do most of this on her credit card – which has left her with an enormous debt that is relentlessly incurring interest.
Keeping the costs of her readings and her book The Sabian Oracle down has also resulted in less income for her, particularly as the US dollar has, for several months now, gone down by about 10% as against the Australian dollar. Mum does have a little cottage in the mountains, but since she has refinanced more than once to support her work, she now has several mortgages on it. She drives a car made in the last millennium (it’s a 1999 model).
Recently, Mum became so frustrated with her financial situation, she felt there was no choice but to give up on astrology altogether. That would be such a loss to everybody who follows her work, and in my mind, an unnecessary one.
We’ve been talking about how to take Mum’s work to the next level, and make it sustainable. She wants to do a series of regular podcasts and videos, and also to do tutorials for the website. We’ll be looking at ways to generate income for this, while keeping it accessible to people from all walks of life. Patreon seems like a good way to do this, which works on a small monthly donation model.
In the meantime, however, Mum needs to get out of this immediate financial crisis. As many of you realise, it is very hard to keep up a creative momentum when you can’t pay your bills. She feels very reluctant to reach out to her community for help, but I know there are many of you who love Mum’s work, and are more than happy to help her to continue. Ultimately, she needs to erase the credit card debt, which now stands at around $40,000, so she can concentrate on continuing her great work on the Sabian Symbols.
It’s not easy to ask for help when you need it. Mum has been so generous with her time, energy and work, and rarely asks for anything in return. If you can help in this time of crisis, we’d be so grateful – and Mum will be able to continue to generate more and more of her amazing work.
