Keeping Milfred's Memory Alive

Milfred the Rooster wasn't just any ole rooster, he was my baby boy. I talked to him when he was in his incubator, I was there when he hatched. Many of you watched the video and shared in that moment with me.
As Milfred grew, so did his vocal cords! Everyone in our town of Oakland that rode on the West Orange Bike Trail could hear him from early morning until the sun was about to set.
Then, one day out of the blue, God told me that I was going to write a children's book. I thought I was going crazy hearing things....I never wanted to write a book! I didn't know the first thing about writing and never dreamed I'd ever be good enough to do something like that. Then, one day when Milfred was about six months old he went missing from my back yard. I went crazy searching for him. Everyone in my town via Facebook would share my post and tried to help me find him. Then, after being missing for over a day and a half, he showed up at my daughter's school where I was working in the afternoon.
Milfred walked a mile to find me. Oh my, what a joyous moment that was! All the school students that saw me with Milfred witnessed a very special moment. Parents were taking their child's picture with him and he loved it. Next thing you know, Milfred was in the West Orange Times Newspaper as well as two other newspapers across the country. Then, he was interviewed by a reporter on Fox 35 News that asked him why the chicken crossed the road. The answer to that question was so that he could find his Mama....Mo. That's how the idea came about to write the children's book that I never wanted to write. After that, "Milfred Made The News" became an award winning book!
Milfred and I went to Libraries to read to children as well as the Oakland Heritage Festival. I also went to schools and different events to read to children. Milfred soon became quite popular. On April 14, 2015 Milfred received a Proclamation to the Town of Oakland granting him a "National Milfred The Rooster Day"!
I was with Milfred when he took his first breath just as I was with him when he breathed in his last breath.
NOONE loved that little guy more than I did. He was very special to me and I am definitely missing him already. As I walk in the back yard I can feel a void that was once filled with his dance.
I was and am so honored to have had the opportunity to share Milfred's birth, life and now sudden passing with you all.
My dream was to make my book(s) into a cartoon that would teach children life lessons in a loving way. Unfortunately that hasn't happened....yet. I even wrote the theme song and dreamed of kids everywhere singing it.
Although Milfred is no longer physically here with me (and you) I want to keep his memory alive! I want the pages of my book (and future books) to come alive! I thought that Milfred was going to live forever. (Or at least another 5-10 more years because he was so young at heart.) I calculated that that 5 years for a chicken is actually 26 human years.
My wish today is to preserve Milfred in the best way possible. By doing so, I've contacted a local Master Taxidermy Studio.
They researched Milfred and are willing to preserve him as he was...my amazing rooster.
I am asking that IF YOU CHOOSE to help me keep Milfred's Memory Alive that you please contribute a single dollar (or whatever you feel you want to do) to help me reach my monetary goal of ONLY $550 to cover the cost (and Go Fund Me Fees).
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting Milfred and me into your homes in the story once written of how Milfred Made The News to the child or children in your life.
Blessings,
Mama Mo
