Hawaii's New Artificial Reef
Donation protected
Wikoliana Educational Excursions as project manager have recieved the 162 ft "Moko Holo Hele", which was used as the only transportation to and from Ford Island (Pearl Harbor) for nearly 30 years. Captain Jeff is working closely with other organizations and governmental agencies to ensure that the car ferry will be used as an artificial reef and future dive site off the shore of Oahu. When finished, the ship will serve as a protective artifical reef, home for hundreds of marine life species, and a wonderful dive site for ocean enthusiasts from around the world. This monumental project could not be completed without the donations of time, money and talent from our amazing volunteers.
The Hawaiian Islands are some of the most remote islands in the world. Roughly 30% of fish species are only found here. People from near and far travel to this tropical paradise to enjoy the unique wildlife found under the surface of the water. Thou human impact and climate change has cause a loss of valuable habits for many of these beautiful organisms. Artificial reefs have been use to great effect to create new homes for marine life. Nothing attracts scuba divers then a good shipwreck. Many places around the country and the world have used artificial reefs to remarkable result. Having a new shipwreck will not only help the environment, also boost the local economy, attract more scuba divers and overall tourism, and be great free press for Hawaii.
Please join us, as we become a part of Hawaiian maritime history, in the prepping this ferry for sinking off the coast later this year. Mahalo for your generosity!
