MIUWU 202 Veteran Needs Help
Donation protected
We have a shipmate in trouble. This 6+ year veteran from MIUWU 202 in Newport (with previous service in COOPMINE Unit 2202 in New London, predecessor to IBU 22) is unemployed, facing eviction from home and utilities cut off. He is likewise in need of medical treatment and care. A group of concerned NCW alumni and veterans have intervened in the past week to get this shipmate into the VA system and access to the medical care and treatment he needs. Until the VA disability claim is adjudicated (6-12 months?), however, there will be a financial shortfall which could result in homelessness.
You will recognize I am keeping the veteran's name out of this to protect both privacy and dignity. Some of you may know who it is, and if so, please don't say anything that might reveal the identity. This veteran is a proud sailor and is not looking for a handout. As a practical matter, though, some money is needed in the short term to keep thisng afloat and stable until a longer term solution is in place. So this veteran is not asking for your help, but I am.
If you have the resources to lend some financial support, I would be most grateful. I am providing a significant donation to get this rolling, and at least one Retired Chief Petty Officer (an IBU 22 and COOPMINE 2202 alumnus) has pledged a $500.00 contribution, which is awesome! If youre in a position to help like that, that would be amazing, but let's be real: most of us can't spare that kind of coin. So please know that a donation in any denomination you are comfortable with is most welcome and greatly appreciated.
And my financial books are open and available for donor inspection at any time. Every penny you donate (less whatever GoFundMe charges for expense of running the site) will go to the benefit of the veteran in need, until such time as the situation is stabilized. If any excess funds remain thereafter, they will be donated to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Connecticut, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 15 or other suitable veteran's charity.
Thank you and God Bless You!
