Sophie's Marathon Memories

I'm running the London Marathon on 23rd April 2017...and I'm NOT a runner! I'm doing it as it's on my bucket list and as I have a 50/50 chance of developing Alzheimer's in my 40's (I'm 41 this year! like my mum, my auntie and their father. That's a pretty rubbish situation to be in...but I have HOPE because I'm lucky to be taking part in an international drug trial for two and a half years (I've got about another two and a half years to go) and through that I have been blessed to meet other families in the same situation who are also involved in research to find a cure for this awful disease that has ZERO survivors. I'm fundraising as I run/stagger/crawl the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon course to support The Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer's Disease Family Conference which is taking place in London on 15th July 2017. Your donation will help to bring families with these rare genes together to hear from and speak with top researchers and policy makers and spend time with people in the same difficult situation as them - for many it will be the first time that they've met anyone outside of their own family in the same position as them.Your donation will also put a big smile on my face as without these wonderful families we would have no hope for a future where Alzheimer's isn't the end.We all give our time willingly, we have monthly drug doses via IV or injections, have many brain scans throughout each year, lumbar punctures (those of you that know me will know what happens each time I have one of those!) and a tonne of cognitive tests. We do this for OUR families, for YOUR family, and for ANYONE that will go on to develop Alzheimer's in the future. There is no better guinea pig for Alzheimer's research/trials than us and our dodgy genes...and we won't give up on us or YOU!
