On behalf of Franco Llufire & Kristen Alzamora;
As everyone knows, Franco and Kristen brought a beautiful, perfect baby boy into the world on March 27th, 2017; Marcelo Joseph Llufire. When he was 2 weeks old, he started having difficulty feeding and keeping milk and/or formula down. After multiple trips to the pediatrician, Franco and Kristen took matters into their own hands and brought him to AtlantiCare Hospital in Pomona on 4/14/17. Marcelo took a turn for the worse and deteriorated extremely fast while in the hospital, while doctors searched for answers. At first doctors thought he had a bad infection that spread to his blood stream, and they felt it was necessary to transfer him to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia immediately. However, he was not stable enough to travel. They had a CHOP team fly out via helicopter and stabilize him as much as possible for the flight to Philadelphia; in that time Marcelo had multiple seizures and had to be revived by CPR. He made it to CHOP late Friday night. When Franco and Kristen got to CHOP they were told he is somewhat stable but very critical and sick and his prognosis was unknown.
Marcelo was diagnosed with a rare heart defect called Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venus Return (TAPVR) and will have to undergo open heart surgery, in hopes of fixing his heart. His heart defect has cause multiple other problems, he has been sedated, a PICC line in, and placed on ventilators. They are also monitoring and looking to treat dilated vessels that lead to his liver. CHOP has still not ruled out a possible infection too, and are treating for one just in case.
Marcelo has been listed as stable, but in critical condition and is extremely sick. He has a very long road to recovery, but is a fighter, especially for only being 19 days old.
Any donations are greatly appreciated and will go towards assisting with any medical expenses along with being able to help keep Franco and Kristen by Marcelo's side. If you can't donate, please share.
Thank you!
