When I first learned of Marissa's condition, I was absolutely shocked to discover just how expensive all the doctors visits and treatments have been and will continure to be in the future, with no relief in sight. Even through all the doctors and specialists she has already seen, nothing has seemed to give her any relief as of yet. It has been debilitating and affects every aspect of her life on a daily basis. At this point, TMJ has managed to keep her from work and even driving a car. It is keeping her from living life as a functional 28 year old.
Thankfully through her extensive research she has found a specialist in Missouri who, with great hope, may be able to finally help. Unfortunetly, this type of treatment is extremely costly, as she has already invested over $20,000 in fighting this condition, which insurance does not help with whatsoever. The symptoms have been increasingly getting worse and the pain and discomfort has made getting through the day an immense struggle.
This condition is not widely recognized in the medical field, therefore, it is very underfunded. The general public simply does not understnad how debilitating TMJ can be.
