Meeting 4 Safe Water in Puerto Rico
Tax deductible
MEETING is a surf film documenting the explorations of four friends as they travel along the coast of Puerto Rico. The search is not simply for empty lineups and epic surf, but also to embark on a journey off the well-worn tourist path and tap into the roots of previous surf generations. Local surfers Daani Marerro and Ileana Mariela lead the mainland boys Kevin and Paul to their favorite hidden surf spots, restaurants, and remote camping destinations. It’s a short film which captures the beauty and simplicity of this pristine Caribbean coastline, where the four friends encounter a resilient land and people on their path to recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
All proceeds from the film will go directly to help ensure access to clean water for the local people through our collaborating sponsors Darley + H2OpenDoors + Wristsponsible. Funds will support the installation of solar and wind powered water treatment systems around the island of Puerto Rico. It is of vital importance that Puerto Rico rebuild with a decentralized infrastructure. Purified water and power should be generated and be in place community-by-community. This strategy will ensure that the entire island is no longer vulnerable to full outages when the next natural disasters plague the commonwealth. H2OpenDoors is a key component to this by creating water plants that don’t require fuel, electricity or chemicals, and produce enough water to allow the community to develop an enterprise selling family-sized bottles. The revenue generated from the water sales goes right back to the community for solar farms, central building repair, classrooms, child nutritional programs and more.
