Boozhoo, My name is Miigwaans (Little-Feather) Smith and I am a citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians located in Harbor Springs Michigan. I am a freshman at Petsokey High School and I am very active in sports, including basketball, volleyball, and soccer. I also excel in academics, my favorite subjects include Language Arts and Mathematics.
In August 2013 I won the title of Miss Odawa Nation and have represented the Odawa people throughout the last seven months at powwows and community events throughout Indian Country. With my title comes certain responsibilities that I take very seriously. These responsibilities include: being a positive role-model, excelling in academics, and being an active member in the Odawa community.
Part of my responsibility also includes raising funds for costs of travel to powwows and events throughout the year. My goal is to raise $2500.00 for the Gathering of Nations powwow in Albuquerque New Mexico April 24-26th, 2014. I am asking for your help to reach my goal. My family and I have hosted several events in hopes of raising the necessary funds, but now we are asking for your help too. To represent the Odawa Nation at the worlds' largest gathering of tribal nations is a dream for me and for my family.
My family and I have worked very hard over the last few months in preparation for my trip. I am asking for the help of my family and friends through social networking, please share and spread the word. Any dollar amount you can afford would be greatly appreciated. Please stay connected through Facebook, find and follow Miss Odawa Nation 2013-2014 for updates and pictures of my journey and Chi Miigwetch (Thank you) for your support.
