Morris Street Slave Dwellings Project
Donation protected
Three years ago, I purchased through donations from family and friends - a row of slave dwellings for $5k from The Palmetto Trust. They are located in my hometown at 310 Morris Street in Anderson, SC.
I felt at the time an urgency to restore and preserve these structures for their historical relevance in our community and beyond. My vision for these dwellings stops at that, it does not go any further than their restoration and preservation, allowing the spiritual purpose of these structures to evolve through the collective consciousness thereby allowing individuals and groups to exercise their creative energy.
There are very few historical places and spaces that represent the African American presence and experience in our town, county and state. To date, I have not promoted these dwellings, this is my initial effort to stimulate growth in the interest of this endeavor. I will not do it alone.
This Go Fund Me campaign has been created to give others the opportunity to help in the following:
Ground maintenance
Fencing
Property taxes
Securing the structures until renovations can begin
I sincerely appreciate you helping me preserve a piece of history
