Novel Experiments: Fringe Run
The University Of Manchester Drama Society is delighted to be touring Novel Experiments In Living to the Edinburgh Fringe. Debuting in Manchester in Febuary, this original comedy sold out its run and garnered praise from critics and audiences alike. The new production is set to be bigger, bolder and even more halarious than before and we need your help to make it happen.
If you missed it the first time round, here's something to wet your appetite....
'A nameless writer tries to make sense of it all. It’s a shame his own characters keep belittling his efforts.
Novel Experiments In Living follows some characters in a script, as they discover, to various extents, that they’re characters in a script. It’s a love story, it’s a social commentary, it’s a comedy. (It’s pretentious, it’s confusing, it screams student theatre). It’s a play that writes itself. (It’s a play that critiques itself). Descend into the inkwell with this mindbending new comedy.'
We're hoping to raise £500 to fund the production this time around. This will mainly go towards...
- Publicity- The Fringe is the best place is the world for new theatre! BUT with so many new plays trying to get noticed a good publcity campeign is vital for success.
- Set, props and costume- With a brand new, bigger space to perfrom in, we need to outshine The National Theatre with our striking and cohesive asthetic.
- Cost of living- there are tonnes of brilliant people involved in the production; producers, publicity managers, technicians. None are being paid but are lending their talents because they believe in the play. With the cost of living at the Fringe so high, a little support would go a long way.
As up and coming theatre makers, we understand what a golden oppertunity we have to be perfroming at the Fringe. It's the heart of the most exciting new drama this country has to offer and a place where careers are launched. This play means a lot to us, exploring themes of hope vs hoplessness, niaevity vs jadedness, excitement vs fear and freedom vs security; the whole contradictary whirlwind of feelings we face post-graduation. We're also confident in its merit, having garnered praise for its fast pace, beautifully choreographed physical sequences and clever and unique use of self-awareness in its narrative. With your support, we're confident it'll be a roaring success. Any donation would be enourmously appreciated.

Praise for Novel Experiments In Living:
'Rob Paterson’s second foray into writing and direction is a witty, fast-paced, meta-comedy... for a generation who feel defined by the culture they consume, this is a resonant, and aptly self-deprecating, piece of theatre.'
- Joe Evans, Theatre Critic
