The Nepali children growing up in the villages outside of the Kathmandu Valley do not have access to the same opportunities as students in the city. The students living in these villages are prone to being from families in extreme poverty.
For the past three years, CHOICE Humanitarian has been training the village communities how to sustainably improve the economic levels of these poor families with great success. Almost of 1/3 of the families in the CHOICE program have been lifted out of extreme poverty. Now it is time to improve the quality of education in these villages with 50 TI-Nspire CX handheld computers for the 50 middle schools and high schools in the 20 rural villages in the Lamjung District northwest of Kathmandu. The math teachers in each village school can use the handheld and the accompanying computer software to demonstrate dynamically mathematical concepts that are difficult to teach on a chalkboard.
Since each handheld including software costs $130, the $7000 goal would cover just the cost of purchasing the handhelds and shipping. Anything raised over that would be used to buy class sets of handhelds for students to use.
If our goal of $7000 is raised before the end of 2017, I would be ecstatic to have the opportunity to train the teachers in the village schools as early as January 2018. Please help us now to raise enough funds to buy at least 50 TI-Nspire CX handhelds for Lamjung.
