NED's Legal Defense Fund

Donation protected
In order to deal with the constant harassment by the Detroit Police Department, New Era Detroit is asking the community to show your support of our work by making a donation to our legal defense fund. As many of you have seen through our videos, it seems we have become targets of the DPD, having several incidents of ticketing, harassment and arrests made while we are working hard to better our communities.

During our neighborhood watch patrols known as ‘The Streets is Watching’  several of our members were subjected to the use of excessive force from the police as they were unlawfully arrested and detained, and still face the threat of Felony charges stemming from the exaggerated reports by those arresting officers. Additionally, members face misdemeanor charges for ‘parking on grass’ while loading and unloading at our Mother’s Day picnic, which was interrupted by the arrival of nearly 20 squad cars called in by an officer that had a personal vendetta against New Era Detroit.

Our president Zeek was recently overheard being complimented by a Detroit woman that recognized him while stuck driving along Jefferson during rush hour traffic. As soon as the traffic cop on duty overheard the woman mention his work with New Era Detroit, he began to harass Zeek and issued him a ludicrous ticket for “Driving with one hand” and “impeding traffic” even though it was nearly at a standstill due to it being rush hour.

We have learned from previous groups such as the Black Panthers that this is one of the go-to tactics that law enforcement uses in their attempts to dismantle organizations like New Era Detroit. They seek to discourage our efforts, exhaust our resources and lower morale by issuing tickets and arrests, hoping to weaken the movements at their core and discredit leadership. We do not wish to fall victim to these old tricks, and have decided to share with you, our community supporters, just what we are up against in hopes to prepare to defend ourselves against these malicious tactics of the Detroit Police Department.

We are asking you to donate however much you are able and inspired to contribute, which will go towards our legal fees that include lawyers, citation and court fees as well as monies to help members that protect the community with The Streets is Watching patrols become clean, licensed drivers.

New Era Detroit WILL NOT be discouraged and we will not let the games being played by the DPD shake our dedication to those who need us, THE PEOPLE. Please make donation to help us stand strong against this harassment and share this link to as many people as you can!

Peace, Love and POWER!
