No Small Victories
Mission Statement: Education. Empowerment. Inclusion.
No Small Victories endeavors to promote autism awareness education, self-advocacy empowerment, and inclusion for families living on the autism spectrum.
Hello, I am a mother of a child diagnosed on the autism spectrum, an autism awareness advocate, published author, public speaker and graduate student studying towards a Masters of Education-Autism/Applied Behavior Analysis. My goal is to start a nonprofit to promote community awareness and education, facilitate stronger parental advocacy and support community inclusion for those diagnosed on the autism spectrum. My target population includes but is not limited to African American males who, at 5:1 to females, experience a nearly two year diagnostic disparity from their counterparts.
It is imperative that education about the early signs of autism be supported for this at risk population to ensure early diagnosis, earlier intervention and reduce the need for much more intensive and expensive therapeutic interventions and social supports later in life.
Funds will go directly toward program development and supports as well as Project C.A.R.E. (collaborative autism resources for everyone), a community education initiative to broaden options of service access in the community for families diagnosed on the spectrum through community education and collaboration. Funds raised will also support continued publications of my children's book series, presentation materials, stipends for specialist speakers in the areas of special education, education law, nutrition, therapeutic interventions, social supports and advocacy.
Autism statistics nationally stand at 1:50, and are even higher for males! Please support my efforts so that young men like my son Joshua have a better chance at successful outcomes!
