Help Noyekh get to the Yidish Vokh!

I do not have enough money to pay for the Yidish Vokh this year. For those of you who don't know, the Yidish Vokh is a week-long Yiddish retreat that's held in Copake, NY between August 16-22 (https://yugntruf.org/yiddish-vokh/?lang=en). Yidish Vokh is a great opporunity to  speak Yiddish for a whole week with other campers. I have already gone for the past two years and it would be a real shame if I had to miss it this year on account of money.

Since this past year, I have undergone a lot of financial hardships. I do mostly contract research work and, as a result, I have thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes to the IRS. On top of that, I am paying back student loans and trying to manage the extravagent cost of living in New York City.

Speaking Yiddish is really important to me. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz in 2015 with a degree in Jewish Studies, I moved to New York City to speak Yiddish. I studied Yiddish at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research for the past three summers and am the TA this year. I live in a Yiddish-speaking home in the Bronx and have worked in three Yiddish theaters (the Folksbiene, New Yiddish Rep, and the Joseph Papp Theater). I have also written numerous articles in the Forverts and Afn Shvel. I would be grateful for any help to get me BACK to the Yidish Vokh this year! Yiddish is a special, thousand-year-old language that was spoken by millions of Jews before the Holocaust. It is important that we do all that we can to perserve this beautiful language and culture. Yidish Vokh is an important way to keep Yiddish spoken.

I have chosen the cheapest option, that is sleeping in a tent: $480. I also have to cover roundtrip fare on the Yidish Vokh bus, $55, as well as the $72 Yugentruf membership. This comes out to $607. I will do my part and pay for the tent and necessary gear. I hope to raise these funds by August 1, or at least more than half.

If you help me, I will send you a personalized thank you letter in Yiddish and you will be added to the Book of Life (Seyfer HaKhayim) for your generosity.
