Please help support my sister Officer Jasmin Torres.

On Feb 16, 2012, my sister Police Officer Jasmin Torres was working a night shift like any other night. As she waited for the light to turn and proceeded to cross the intersection she was T-boned by a drunk driver in a work van.   She was struck on the passenger door spinning her car.  The driver of the other vehicle was deported back to his Country as he was here illegally.

My sister has not been the same since.  She suffered a concussion, neck and back hurniations, labral tear in her right hip, nerve damage in her right arm and hand.  She has been walking with a cane in order to walk.  She has severe pain in her back and hip.  Her feet go numb from time to time upon so many other issues.  The state doctor declared her permanently disabled. Through all the pain she did attempt to return to light duty however she was unable to complete simple tasks due to these injuries.

Unfortunatly, Mount Vernon Police Dept failed her and continues to do so.  They have denied multiple requests from several doctors as well as the police independent medical examiner to provide any therapies and surgeries necessary for her recovery. In addition they have suspended her pay and health benefits since her last return to work 2 -1/2 years ago.    She has been in an ongoing battle for the Police Dept to retire her under these very clear injuries.  The driver was found to be drunk while she was on Patrol.  With the current legal case against the PD and growing medical bills, mortgage and day to day expenses have become over whelming. She will be needing surgery in order to help correct her hip. Which will only incur more medical expenses.

My sister was a great Police Officer.  She on so many occasions risked her life for the greater good and she loved what she did.  She was proud and graceful at her duties.  She is the Mother to a beautiful 7 year old girl Ariana and Wife to Husband Edgar for 5 years.  This long and drawn out struggle has not only put a physical and a financial strain on this beautiful family but a very emotional one.  She spent her short lived career selfless and risking her life everyday to protect others.  Please help her out now.   We are forever grateful.
